New enquiries for driving lessons – update August 2020

Aviva Driving School continue to prioritise the provision of driving lessons to existing pupils whose lessons ceased following the outbreak of Covid-19. Whilst our driving instructors have been working very hard since the business reopened at the end of June, we have an extensive backlog of lessons which the instructors must complete prior to taking on new pupils.

Unfortunately, we cannot give you a timeline as to when we can accept new pupils as this will depend on the extent of the backlog in the various locations and the speed at which our driving instructors can deal with it. However, our expectation is that it is likely to be several months before we will be able to offer lessons to new pupils.

We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause you. If you would like to complete the contact form below with your name, address and contact details, we will get in touch with you once we have availability to take on new pupils in your area.

We will continue to update our website and social media platforms.

All pupils and driving instructors are required to wear face masks for the duration of the lesson

We are closely monitoring the advice from the Government, the Health Service Executive (HSE) and the Road Safety Authority (RSA) and have made some changes in how we operate driving lessons during Covid-19. We will do everything in our power to keep both our driving instructors and our pupils safe, including the following:

Driving instructors are taking extra care to ensure that they sanitise and clean the tuition car between each driving lesson;

Driving instructors are taking extra care to ensure that they sanitise and clean the tuition car between each driving lesson

Each driving instructor is required to have a hand sanitiser available in their car

Pupils are requested to use a hand sanitiser before and after each lesson and/or more frequently as required

In the event that pupils cannot use the hand sanitiser, they will be provided with disposable gloves

All pupils and driving instructors are required to wear face masks for the duration of the lesson

Pupils should bring their own mask with them

No lesson will be more than one hour long

Whilst most of our driving instructors will be returning to work on a phased basis, they will be working reduced hours to further minimise any risks

Driving instructors are following HSE recommendations and will all be isolating if they show any Covid-19 symptoms, so we ask for patience and understanding should we need to cancel a rescheduled appointment

Prior to each driving lesson, pupils will be asked to confirm that they are not experiencing any symptoms of Covid-19 or if they have been in contact with anyone who has the virus or is experiencing symptoms. This request is in order to ensure that we can safely provide the driving lesson

Please note that as we are operating on a reduced basis, the progression of driving lessons may be slower. Driving lessons are entirely subject to availability. In some instances, a driving instructor may not return to work immediately if at all.

In providing the driving lessons to pupils, the driving instructors are taking all HSE precautions and industry guidance which are outlined above. There is however still an element of risk with the delivery of lessons in a confined space. By taking lessons with Aviva Driving School and / or its driving instructors’, pupils are accepting this risk.

Therefore, if pupils are unwell, have recently returned from outside of Ireland or have come into contact with someone with Covid-19, we ask that they please reschedule their driving lesson even if they do not have any symptoms. We will help to accommodate them at a time that is mutually convenient at a later date of at least 14 days from date of notification.

*As our driving instructors are self-employed, the decision to return to work is one that they must make. Where a driving instructor is not comfortable returning to work at this time, we will ask other instructors in the area with spare capacity to provide the lessons when they can. As we are operating at a significantly reduced capacity there may be delays in providing an alternative driving instructor.
