Dear Broker

At Aviva, we want to make sure that you are kept up to date with all the relevant regulatory changes that impact the way motor insurance is purchased and renewed in Ireland.

We would like to take this opportunity to outline some important upcoming changes to Road Traffic Act legislation that will be introduced on 31st March 2025.

From this date all motor insurance policies sold in the Republic of Ireland will require a valid driver number for the policyholder and each driver named on the policy. Such driver numbers will need to be collected and validated prior to confirming cover.

To ensure the safe delivery of this project, and that the various broker and insurers software systems are updated to cater for this change, the Department of Transport, working with various industry bodies, have supported a phased delivery schedule.

Therefore, these changes will affect the following product types from the 31st of March 2025, all;

  • private motor policies,
  • motorcycle policies, and
  • collector vehicle policies.

From the 1st of October 2025, these requirements will then apply to all commercial motor products.

To support the implementation of these changes and to provide you guidance, we are attaching two documents:

  1. A guide that outlines the new Road Traffic Act requirements and the actions we need you to take. Click HERE
  2. A guide to update and validate Driver Licence Numbers on bLive that will be available at the end of March. Click HERE

Thank you for your continued support.

Yours sincerely
